Dino Mike and the T.Rex Attack

I wanted to write about something new and never really being a reader of books until recently due to reading more to my kids who are finally old enough to sit and listen long enough. I thought well I am reading all of these books after all and I might as well share my opinion of these books that I have read to someone.

My middle boy who is 4, is obsessed with dinosaurs he loves them with a passion. He knows quite a lot of the names and what they would have done back when they were alive. He has a pretty big vocabulary when it comes to any kind of dinosaur. Which is why I thought that he would love to hear a book about dinosaurs but not just the boring same old information books but more based around a storyline that includes dinosaurs instead. I like I am sure many people enjoy a story that takes you to another realm of existence. When I read any kind of book I don’t want to be in boring old Iowa anymore well that is unless the book is about Iowa. Then I wonder why would I have been reading it to begin with?
I spent quite a lot of time scouring the internet for a book that had dinosaurs in it and adventure as well. After kind of narrowing it down I had to of course make sure it was something that his age and his older brother who is 6 could wrap their minds around.

Dino Mike and the T.Rex Attack was the book I settled on. It is the first book in a series of 8 by Franco Aureliani who also illustrated it as well. It is always the best idea to start at the beginning of any kind of series: books, movies, tv, ect because that’s usually where you start anything, at the beginning! The book is for a reading grade of second & third grade or for the typical age of 6-8 years old. I don’t feel that kids should feel restricted to books because of their age or reading level because everyone is at a different level altogether because we are all different. My 6 year old is just now learning to read and my 4 year old doesn’t know how to read yet so I was the main one reading although I did have my 6 year old read a page here and there just to help his mind learn some new words. I read this book to my children over the course of a couple weeks reading a chapter or two at a time. I could have easily have read it front to back in less than a day. I read it to them wanting it to last a bit longer but it could have been done a lot soon than two weeks just an FYI. It is a 10 chapter long book with chapters that average from 5-10 pages with the exception of a couple that have closer to 20 but keep in mind that this book has pictures in it as well. I’ll show you the type of pages to read with the picture style/illustration style as well below.

I got a kick out of reading this book because it was engaging for me the reader as well as the audience I was reading to. My boys seemed to enjoy the adventure that they were taken on into a world where dinosaurs actually still existed; it pulls your imagination out of storage making it full of life and adventure once again. As with any good book series it pulls you in and this one does just that making you want to get the next book and so on. For an added experience while reading this book to my littles I came up with the idea of having them tell in words or draw a picture in a little reading journal about the chapter I was reading to them at that time. I wanted to make sure that they were indeed absorbing the words I was reading to them. After & sometimes during the chapters I read to them they did just that drew or wrote about what they pictured was happening in their own minds. This strategy helped them and still does help them learn to listen to what is being said to them or in this case read.

What is the book about?

If I could summarize this book up to what it is about it would look something like this. The actual book it’s self is like I mentioned about a kid and a dinosaur; only this dinosaur is somehow mysteriously brought into todays world where a kid named Mike stumbles into a fun adventure. He must figure out how this happened while meeting some unique characters along the way!

How much did this book cost?

The book itself was a good price not super expensive and I felt that it was a good price for the length of book you get as well as the quality of the book. It doesn’t feel like a cheap book and is well bound together. Everything has held up well when turning pages to read the quality of paper is also pretty good. Sometimes a cheaper book means that less time went into the books that are printed/made so the pages might rip easier or might just fall apart all together. That is not the case here as it does seem to be a pretty well put together book. You can see the price below for both the US & Canada.

My boys & I enjoyed reading this book and we loved the adventure it took us on. I am planning on completing this book series so look for updates on those books in the future. It was a nice read that I feel anyone with kids would enjoy or maybe even a someone who enjoys reading about dinosaurs in general. Thanks for reading my post and for visiting my blog. Raddish Kids

Being home for most of this year has brought so many great companies & products into our families lives. I am always on the look out for new activities and teaching fun to do with my kids. I want all of my boys to be able to be independent and take care of themselves eventually with out help. One of my goals for this year is to teach them at least the older two how to cook and fix some of their own meals. I will of course cook most of their meals being their mom but I also want them to feel comfortable in the kitchen and comfortable making some of their own snacks or meals as well. I recently came across a pretty neat company that helps kids achieve just that independence.

Raddish Kids

Join Raddish Today. A cooking club for kids.Raddish is a cooking club for kids. The kitchen is the tastiest place to learn!

Raddish Kids is a monthly cooking club that teaches kids of all ages how to cook with confidence in the kitchen, either with help of an adult if they are not quite old enough or by themselves if they are ready to move to the next level in their journey in cooking. While keeping kids ages 4-14+ in mind Raddish creates and sends out monthly cooking kits that help learn all about the kitchen and the many different recipes that can be created.

How does it work?

Save $15 on a 6 month membership

  1. First things first you will need to “Join the Club” by choosing your monthly subscription rate. You can choose from three different options as far as billing is concerned: Monthly, 6 Months, and 12 months. Each with their own set of perks of course! The monthly priced kit is $24 and includes everything in the kit that would normally ship you can add an apron on for purchase but it is not included in this option they are $15 each with a max of 4.); however the 6 months option adds on a sweet perk with a free apron for the first box added into the mix (I will explain why this is so cool in a minute). The 6 month option is also quite neat because the price per box drops down to $22 (that is $132 paid up front; with a savings of $12). If you want to save $4 more per box and still get that free one time apron in the first box try paying for a while 12 months at a time as you will pay a cool $20 per box. (This option totals $240 up front which in the end saves you $48).
  2. Now you have got you kits all tidied up and they will be shipping out to you shortly what is it that you will be expecting? Every kit includes of course the monthly cooking kit, some digital recipes and activities, as well as a great online community through Raddish Kids many social media platforms and website! Each kit has its own theme for each month it is sent out; which means specialized recipes for each one of those boxes surrounding the theme. How cool is that? I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share it with you, because why not!
  3. Remember those aprons I talked about earlier? Well here’s what is so cool about them. Your apron is a place to hold all sorts of memories as you create amazing recipes with your family through your journey in the kitchen but it also is a special badge holder of sorts. Each cooking kit sends a special badge (patch) that you can sew or attach to your apron as a keepsake. You get to have something that ties a bond of sorts to each apron kind of like a little trophy of what you have accomplished. Also included in every kit you will receive the neat badge, some recipe cards, new culinary skills, and a new kitchen tool to help you on your journey for the current recipe or any others you come across in the future. Your kit will always be different as kits never repeat so don’t worry about filling out your very own cookbook because your readers won’t get tired of creating those fun recipes you have collected for your book!
